Conversations with the Universe: The Intolerant Tolerance

The boy stands in a field with robotic hands forced upon him by society, shouting out his frustration.

The Little One lay quietly in a summer field of rapeseed, her gaze turned toward the sky. Around her, yellow plumes swayed gently in the breeze. She felt within herself a familiar sense of helplessness and confusion. She had spent days thinking about people and their actions, after only a few hours spent on the internet.

“Universe,” she sighed, “why has tolerance become so intolerant? Why do people seem so eager to destroy one another’s lives and careers just because of differing opinions? I mean this modern Woke and Cancel culture.

I also wonder why I am different—why I don’t feel the need for others to agree with me. Is it because of the era I grew up in, my spiritual path, or is there something flawed in me? I think about it because I’ve been told that my tolerance is indifference. They say I should have a strong, loud opinion and a fierce desire to change circumstances. Otherwise, I am an enabler.”

The Universe listened carefully, letting the Little One’s questions flow into the fabric of existence. It knew that thousands of small ears and consciousnesses were listening to their conversation.

Finally, it answered softly:

“Little One, your question touches the deep paradox of being human, especially in a society that so often fights against its own values. Tolerance, like many good ideas, can become distorted if it lacks true understanding and compassion.

When tolerance becomes an obligation, it turns into intolerance—a state where others are forced to conform to a particular way of thinking and everything different is condemned. This is woven into human history. The desire to do good can turn into pressure and control when not balanced by wisdom. It is not a new phenomenon; it simply has a new name. Humanity has repeated it for thousands of years within its communities.”

The Universe paused for a moment and then continued:

“Woke and Cancel cultures reflect people’s fear and their need to protect their own values, yet they also fuel division, because they seek consensus where none can exist. Every person sees the world through their own experiences and level of awareness, and though truths may differ, the structures of society often try to impose one truth upon all. This is part of collective growing pains.”

The Little One listened quietly and felt her confusion begin to fade, though the question of her own difference still lingered in her mind.

The Universe responded to that too, as if reading her thoughts.

“Your tolerance comes from a deep understanding and openness gathered through your many lives. It is not indifference but awareness—that every being has their own path and their own rhythm for discovering truth.

The understanding that not everyone can share the same perspective is a gift. It doesn’t make you flawed; it expands your world. A loud opinion and fierce activism are not the only ways to create change. Sometimes transformation happens in silence, when one knows how to listen and understand.

Change does not always require a public fight. Sometimes inner peace and balance are the most powerful tools. You do not accept injustice because you remain quiet; you have simply found your own way of being part of change without breaking your harmony.”

The Little One nodded softly, though her brow furrowed.

“Then why do I see things this way? Why don’t others?” she sighed deeply, her chest heavy. “What’s the point if others don’t see themselves? It frustrates me. It feels like people don’t understand what they are. They lack a mirror and cannot see their own actions. It’s so disheartening that I no longer really like people. I, who have always been social, can no longer appreciate them. They so often seem repulsive in their urge to make the world uniform. They are like iron fists pounding everything delicate that might sprout and grow.”

The Universe’s voice resonated softly through the surroundings.

“I understand your feelings, Little One. Within you is a deep longing to see humanity as it could be—in the brightest light of its potential. But instead, you encounter its shadow. This judgment, this closed-mindedness and urge to force the world into one mold, awaken anger and frustration in you because you know there is so much more to people than this surface struggle for power and conformity.”

The Little One closed her eyes and let the Universe’s words settle in her mind.

“But why are they like this?” she asked quietly. “Don’t they realize what kind of world they are shaping?”

“Many live as if asleep,” the Universe replied. “They are disconnected from their deeper selves and focused on outer structures such as power, status, and approval. They are not yet ready to look deeper, for the mirror you speak of can reveal painful truths. It is easier for many to project their fears and insecurities onto others than to face them within themselves.”

The Little One opened her eyes and looked toward the horizon.

“Maybe… but what about when they make others suffer? When they try to destroy other people’s lives in the name of good? Is that simply hunger for power?”

The Universe was silent for a moment, and when it spoke again, its voice carried profound wisdom.

“It can be fear, stubbornness, and the desire for power—all intertwined. ‘Only my thoughts are right’ often comes from the need to hold on to one’s worldview because it offers safety. When someone’s identity is challenged, it feels threatening. The hunger for power manifests exactly as you describe—by pressuring others and trying to control their lives and reputations. It is small-minded behavior that gives the illusion of strength.”

The Little One sighed deeply and shook her head.

“And I—do I just think I know the right answer when I criticize others?”

The Universe chuckled gently.

“Wisdom lies in asking yourself exactly that: do I have the right to say that I know? This openness is part of spiritual growth, Little One. Keep asking, keep searching, and remember that the world is always complex and layered. You have your truth, but that does not mean you must silence the truths of others.

You can meet them with compassion even if you do not accept their actions. You are on your journey, and so are they—at a different stage, but on the path all the same.”

The Little One sat quietly for a long while, listening to the Universe’s words, which felt like gentle hands resting on her shoulders.

“Perhaps humanity can never be fully understood,” she whispered, “but perhaps I don’t need to. Maybe it’s enough that I understand myself.”

The Universe did not reply, but within its silence was the answer.
